A lot of times when you’re working with your mobile phone as the main recorder, some accessories may come in handy. I’ve tried to summarize how I have accessorized my phone.

Nokia Tripod

This is my most valuable piece of equipment. I use this tripod for streaming and time-shift capture. A good thing is also that I can remove the top and use it for my pocket camera and handy-cam.

Modified bluetooth earpiece

If you’re on a press conference and want to stream live og record a bit during the conference, this is a handy utility. On this cheap earpiece, I’ve removed the ear speak and glued on a clip. This way I can clip on the earpiece, well now it’s actually just a wireless microphone, on the person of the day. On Nokia N82 and N95 you can use a bluetooth earpiece (mic) as a microphone when record video or audio. The quality is not as good as the on-board microphone, but in crowdy places you will filter out a lot of noise. I guess that you will get better sound quality with a more expensive piece. I removed the speaker part to avoid feedback and to be able to glue on a clip.

Bluetooth keyboard

This keyboard comes in handy when you have to deliver a longer pice of text in short time and don’t want to bring along your laptop. It actually works pretty well. This keyboard is Nokias own solution. I also have a keyboard from Freedom for my HTC P3300. The latter are making keyboards for a lot of phone models. It needs some getting used to, but at present I’m actually able to write quite fast on this keyboard. The biggest problem with the two different keyboard types I’ve tried, is that they’re draining the battery on my mobile phone pretty fast.

Solar charger

The biggest problem with advanced mobile phones is that the battery won’t last very long if recording or streaming excstensivly. There’s a lot solar chargers on the market. I bought this one on an auction for about 20 dollars. I’m not so happy with it, but is was cheap so guess I can’t complain about ut. Most solar chargers comes with a built in battery. The battery on this one is a lot bigger than the battery on my Nokia. I can almost charge my phone two times when it’s full. I can either charge it with sun or charge it from my wall socket. Some of the more expensive solar chargers delivers quiker charging from sun rays. The Power Monkey can also be split into two parts. If you can afford it, I guess that would be my preferd solution.

 USB Charger

One of the dumbest thing about Nokia N82 and N95 is that you can’t charge them through the USB cables. I can’t understand why they haven’t made charging through the USB port available. The rest of the worlds phone producers have understood that this is a smart thing to do – why not Nokia? Anyway, I bought this charger for about 10 dollars.
